The Taliban did not attack us on 9/11, Al-Qaida did.  True, they harbored them but so what?  Other countries did also and Pakistan still does.

We are supporting a corrupt regime.  It is a divided society ruled by various clans.  It is barely out of the feudal age.  It has never been conquered because of the terrain and because the people never give up.

Is it our duty to create democratic governments?  Al-Qaida declared war on us by a surprise attack.   Alright, we have been down this route before.  Let President Obama go to Congress and ask for a declaration of war on Al-Qaida.  Tell the world that we will pursue Al-Qaida and destroy them, no matter where they are.  We will not ask permission to cross an international boundary; we will not lose our soldiers to homemade bombs; we will use stealth drones and while we will make every effort not to harm innocent civilians, if they allow our enemies to live in their village they invite death from the air; we will use Special Forces; in short we will do whatever we have to do to defeat our enemy.

Why there is not more opposition to this mistaken war is puzzling to me.  We had every right to go after Al-Qaida when they were in Afghanistan.  We beat them.  They went to the mountains of Pakistan.  Now they are branching out to the Sudan.  Let's go get them wherever they are.  What are we doing in AFGHANISTAN!!!!!

KABUL, Afghanistan – Five American troops died Saturday in bombings in southern Afghanistan where international forces are stepping up the fight against the Taliban, officials said.

Four of the victims died in a single blast, NATO said in a statement without specifying nationalities nor providing further details. A fifth service member was killed in a separate attack in the south, NATO said.

U.S. officials confirmed all five were Americans. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity under rules regarding casualty identification.

The latest deaths bring to 75 the number of international troops killed in Afghanistan this month, including 56 Americans.

The U.S.-led force is ramping up operations against the Taliban in their southern strongholds, hoping to enable the Afghan government to expand its control in the volatile region.
