From San Diego we went north and camped on the beach near Ventura, Ca. From there we could look westward to Channel Islands National Park. We took a boat over and spent the day exploring Santa Cruz Island, the largest of the five islands. At one time, some 12,000 plus years ago, they were all one island land mass and then when the seas rose after the ice age, they became five distinct islands. Scientists value them because there are species of plants and wildlife on the islands that do not exist on the mainland. We hiked, spent some time with a Park Ranger, hiked, picnicked on the beach, and enjoyed the day. On the way coming and going we saw seals, dolphins, and sea lions. Around the islands the water is crystal clear, perfect for snorkeling but too cold for me. I did enjoy lying on the beach listening to the waves. Ahh,,,, life is good sometimes....
