The north rim of the Grand Canyon does not get the traffic that the south does. It is harder to get to and the views are not as spectacular. It does have its own charm though. We took a mule ride, attended some Park Ranger talks, saw many beautiful flowers, and had a wonderful time. While taking the mule ride along the rim we were treated to the sight of wild turkeys running through the woods. The Ranger gave talks about the flora and fauna of the canyon and explained that people have lived in the Canyon for many thousands of years. They would live in the Canyon during the winter months and in the spring they found trails out of the canyon to the top of the rim where they would live for the summer and harvest their food.
Beautiful wildflowers are all over the North Rim. It really is spectacular and I wish we had planned the trip around a visit to the bottom of the canyon. Each time we venture out on a journey such as this we discover more places we want to visit.
